Buttercups Can't Fly
Through my collection of secondhand fabrics, natural dyes, and plastic waste, I
build a personal lexicon that connects my artwork to sustainability. I explore emotional
memories and human connections; themes that are also evident in the history of fiber
art. Anni Albers’ textiles opened the door for many womxn artists such as Sheila Hicks
and Faith Ringgold.
My artwork creates a safe space where I re-contextualize my experiences,
translating moments into visual stories that fuse imagination with reality. My recent work
“Buttercups Can’t Fly,” brings attention to endangered flowers local to Pennsylvania and
North Carolina. I hope to start a conversation about environmental justice and shed light
on sustainable art practices.
