"Between the Ridges: Watercolor Paintings of Central Pennsylvania"
Leslie is in constant pursuit of capturing the beauty of the landscapes of Central Pennsylvania. The town of Bellefonte was her initial muse and she painted initially with oils and pastels. She was always amazed and inspired by the art of local watercolorists Harlan Ritchey, Jeff Mathison, Lena Thynell and Brienne Brown. Leslie began experimenting with watercolors a few years ago and painted watercolor sketches of local views and historic structures. She also took a few classes at the Art Alliance in Lemont. Her inspiration for her watercolors extended to Millbrook Marsh Nature Center and to the farmlands and fields between Bellefonte and Williamsport. She continues to be impressed by the remarkable and large-scale watercolor paintings by her artist colleagues, but she generally prefers to paint “small worlds” which tend to be relatively quiet and serene. During the stressful early days of the pandemic, watercolors were a great source of comfort and healing while we were all practicing social distancing.
