Working in Wood
Although never formally trained, I have learned to work with wood from generous friends, reading countless magazine articles, and 40 years of trial and error. These skills have often had practical application in the building of a house and furniture, but have also been used for personal expression in sculpture forms. For many years I created carved vessels, elaborate constructions that explored the relationship of inside and outside, machined and organic, texture, color, balance and weight.
I enjoy the design process, the problem solving of getting from an imagined object to some tangible thing that can be shared with others. Sometimes it is a useful thing and other times the expression of an idea. Sometimes it is just trying to make something beautiful.
