My work centers on communication, human connection, and wayfinding. Using systems of navigation and my personal experience as sources of inspiration, I create atmospheres for people to explore and connect to. By joining parts and layering materials in unexpected ways, I build spaces to provoke questions, elicit reactions, and encourage viewers to empathize within.
Optically shifting forms by deconstructing them into line, color, plane, and light encourages viewer participation and integration into the environment. Moving around the work as it shifts out of focus simulates the uncertainty of navigating new spaces. The choices of what materials to use and their connection points are as important as the materials themselves. The joining of multiple materials shows individuality within a system. A thin metal shell against a stark fabric anchor reframes what defines strength or fragility. Creating a space that welcomes viewers to reflect through form and space fosters an environment of connectivity.
Finding unique connections merges individuality with community and lessens feeling lost. This process creates a space that encourages curiosity and connection through art making. I hope that this experience lingers with people and that they consider how they connect with others and the stability that they create.
