Cecilia J Rusnak I’ve always been curious about my physical surroundings, how and why those surroundings are ordered, and most importantly, how they affect me. Even as a young child, I recognized the contrast between human-ordered environments and nature-ordered ones, and realized that cared-for human places and healthy natural or in-between places made me feel that all was right with my world. I became an explorer, seeking places that were “special.” I continue this search for place experiences that are transcendent. Over the years, my work has expressed such external as well as internal explorations, most often referring to places and their details, both real and imaginary. My current work incorporates photography and textiles with other mediums. This work has been exhibited internationally at the Galerie Vyšehrad in Prague, and in national venues such as the National Czech and Slovak Museum in Cedar Rapids, IA; and the Textile Arts Center in Chicago. I’ve had numerous solo shows in the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions. My work has also been juried into shows throughout the United States. My professional background includes education and practice in the fields of history, and graphic and spatial design. I’ve taught at the University of Iowa, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and retired from Penn State University, where I taught landscape architecture and preservation planning. My home is in the Ridge and Valley landscape of central Pennsylvania
