Four local artists capture the outside world in a variety of styles and using different media. Artwork includes painting, photography, woodcarving, paper cutting and collage. The unifying element of the exhibition is the artists’ focus on the outside world. The juxtaposition of the varied media and artist styles is the challenge to this show. The works depict shape and reality in strikingly different ways. Artists interpret and reshape reality as they see it. The exhibition demonstrates how the environment can be translated and explained in radically different ways with representations ranging from realistic depictions to complex and simplified abstractions. There is also a sense of the wild versus the civilized in the show. Seeing the Outside World through another’s eyes, in a museum gallery, can provide new perspectives on the world around us.

Bellefonte and Environs
Since 1997, Gary has been photographing architecture and investigating its history. He uses the elements of chiaroscuro, diverse composition, and control of perspective to create a mood that evokes his concept of the design and function of the building or space. Gary enhances the black and white images using lighting to produce a surreal image.
