Karen Drosnes in the Cool Beans Gallery
Artist Statement: I have always been a maker, getting much pleasure using my hands to create both useful and decorative objects. In 2003 I took a class at Creative Oasis in State College to learn how to fuse glass. I was hooked on glass! There are many different ways to create items out of glass and I have experimented with most of them. I was about to take a class in flameworking at Touchstone Center for Crafts when their glass studio collapsed so I took a class on foraging stone for mosaics with an artist who studied in Italy and knew the ancient techniques. It was a good fit for my work as I can combine the traditional methods of working with glass along with the methods for making mosaics. After teaching art for 29 years both in Pittsburgh and then in Bellefonte, I decided to retire from teaching and direct my attention to making art, traveling and enjoying fine wine (not necessarily in that order). I live just down the road in the Unionville area with my musical husband, Bill, our dog, two cats and 157 fish.
